North Cornwall ~ All Year Round

treesandstreamsmall.jpg - 23.8 K When the last summer visitors are heading homeward across the Tamar and when the swallows are mustering for the flight south, autumn has come to North Cornwall. But don't think that hotels, guest houses and cottages close their doors and turn out the lights - the holiday season continues all year round in North Cornwall, with a variety of Special Breaks, often at bargain prices.

Take a break in autumn, and you could be gathering nuts in Cardinham Woods, beach-combing amongst the bladder-wrack at Trebarwith Strand, or foraging for fungus on the cliffs above Lundy Bay. The days are shorter now, but surprisingly warm: perfect walking weather.

Spend Christmas in North Cornwall and you can enjoy carol concerts and nativity plays in villages from Bude to Bedruthan. Step aboard a steam train in Bodmin for a Mince Pie Ramble or catch a festive concert at Lanhydrock, and in the evening, gather around a log fire in a moorland pub, to swap ghost stories while the spirit of Jan Tregeagle rattles the window panes.

Spring has sprung in North Cornwall before most other parts of Britain have glimpsed the first snowdrop. Violets and primroses show their faces before New Year's Day, and from January daffodils are harvested in the Tamar Valley flower fields. In April and May, the great houses of North Cornwall open their grounds to the public in the Festival of Spring Gardens.

Whatever the season, you'll find varied events laid on by the North Cornwall

Heritage Coast and Countryside Service.
